Lee DeWyze | Victims of the Night

The body, far from being an efficient engine, is also a great artist. Pretty much exemplifies the art and science of life & much else in between. The body could respond well and gracefully to stress. The damage incurred is beautifully mitigated. It heals itself. Rounds down everything to just a scar in the end.

But in the hurt process, where the body is compromised, things could actually get ugly beneath the surface. Pain, the most obvious stimulus, oftentimes is the indicator that this process is actually happening. However, the body has its own way of coping up, of handling the pain. Until it becomes bearable, easy to get passed with. Unknowingly, series of such pain packets could add up to an incredible amount and collectively take its toll in due time. In such case, the body will need rescuing. It could no longer take matters in itself alone anymore.

The thing about pain, as a disease, is it could spread like a wildfire. Though it mostly originates from one organ, say heart, it could easily influence neighboring organs and ultimately the brain, which could be fatal. And when things get out of hand, help is sourced out externally. Time to push the alarm button.

But good gods be doomed, the body sometimes run out of such buttons. The lifeline deemed to help is far too late compromised as well. Worse, turns out to be the primary source of the pain even.

The body ends up the victim of the night.

I’m fine

Believe me I’m fine

Comes the night

I’m not alright

I’m barely hanging on
